Description

Well here you go, a picture of my fair city, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from Mt. Washington on the Southside above Station Square. I stripped together 4 separate photos to create this panoramic view. Starting from the left, is the Carnegie Science Center and the submarine USS Requin, next you can see the Heinz Field where the Steelers play on the North Shore of the Allegheny River, just below it, you can see Point State Park and the Confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. We also have the Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne Bridges, the Fort Duquesne was the famous "Bridge to Nowhere", just to the right of the bridge is the Korean War Memorial. Moving to the right on the North Shore you can just see the right field side of PNC Park where the Pirates Play. Back across the Allegheny in Downtown Pittsburgh we have Gateway Center, home of KDKA Radio ( the first radio station ) and KDKA TV, then the Point Park Hilton Hotel. The dark Borg like building to the right is the Westinghouse Building and the lighter building next to it is the United Steelworkers Building. The pointy building behind them is 5th Avenue Place and the tall glass building next to it is PPG Place and next is GNC Tower followed by the Free Markets Building. Just to the right, you can see the Allegheny River again and the 31st Street Bridge. Moving to the right, the building with the pointy top is the Gulf Oil Building that flashes the city's name in Morris code, above it and to the right is the United States Steel USX Tower, next on the skyline is the Mellon Bank Tower, Oxford Center and the Grant Building. nestled between them is the old Allegheny County Jail and the City County Building, Pittsburgh is the county seat for Allegheny County. Below them is the Smithfield Street Bridge, a little to the right is the new PNC office complex. Off in the distance you can see the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning and Oakland where my Dad and Andy Warhol are from! At this point we are looking out the Monongahela River Valley. Coming back to the city and to the right of the PNC complex is the old Pennsylvania Railroad's Panhandle Division Bridge that is now part of the Light Rail subway and transit system, the "T". The Next bridge is the Liberty Bridge. Just above that is the New Allegheny County Jail, beyond that is the 10th Street Bridge and beyond that is the Birmingham Bridge that connects Oakland with the Southside. Some where out in the Mon is a missing USAAC B-25 Mitchell that crash landed into the river after WWII. Well that concludes our tour! Hope you enjoy the picture.
