Description
He has stood watch over Pittsburgh since 1933, with his gas mask, his Springfield rifle with fixed bayonet, torn shirt and unraveled putties. The statue dedicated to all who made the ultimate sacrifice in WWI. The Doughboy by Allen Newman is an American masterpiece and one of my favorite public/war sculptures. He stands guard at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Butler Street in the Lawrenceville section overlooking Downtown Pittsburgh.
