The Blue Lady by yankeedog The Blue Lady by yankeedog
This was a request from Hoyt Drayer [link] over in Germany. At first it was a bit of a challenge, but the more I got into it, the more fun I had with it. With my Pennsylvania mentality, I usually don't venture out of my home turf, but this was a fun project. The locomotive is a 4-6-2 Pacific No. 01 1102, they call her the "Blue Lady".

I do it for National Rail and London Underground as well. It does get quite interesting some times working with them.

I'm sure it does. A friend of mine does railroad work in Ireland and the UK, he love it. His work has to do with system upgrades.

By the way, the reichsbahn logo with the eagle is prewar. It's the railroad's logo from the Weimar Republik, which dates back to the 1920's.

Well, you certainly got the attention of the German railfan community, which for you was an untapped well. Then, you also made a new girl. There was nothing wrong with the brunette, but everybody knows that blondes have more fun...:)

I love it!

From what I could gather, the middle cylinder of this three-cylinder unit failed on a public run, with suspicions of bad maintenance (although maintaining the middle cylinder of a locomotive with streamline hull is not easy, of course). Now it's supposed to be in Meiningen, the largest steam engine restoring facility in Germany and possibly all of Europe and not accessible to the public.

As a matter of fact, I think I did see it once, years ago at a railroad shown in Braunschweig/Brunswick. At least it was a blue streamline pacific, and there aren't many of that left in Germany, so I guess that had to be it. I wasn't quite as much of a railroad fan or photographer back then, though...

Very nice picture. I like it. Cute girl. Nice locomotive, too. And DB has lots of history, you even have a couple of "pre-unification" logos there, nice! Or should I say, Wunderbar?
