Spring Way

This was shot from the Jeep while sitting in traffic at 31st Street in Pittsburgh's famed Strip District. This alley is called Spring Way and this is looking northeast towards my native Lawrenceville.

For those of you not familiar with the Strip District, it was the destination for almost any product coming into Pittsburgh by rail and was dominanted by the Pennsylvania Railroad produce yard and bordered by the massive passenger & freight yard that stretched from Penn Station at 10th Street to out beyond 31st Street. This part of town was engulfed in the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and saw some of the worst violence in the country during the 45 day strike, 40 people were killed and 29 wounded when the state militia from Philadelphia opened fire on the strikers.
