Each year, the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators does a major show. The theme for the the show this year is Pittsburgh Recast. The show will be at the Heinz History Center in the Strip District in November.

My idea for the show was to do an illustration showing the evolution of the Pennsylvania Railroad in Pittsburgh with Penn Station as the center and constant factor of the evolution. A classic story of no matter how much things change, they remain the same.

Featured in this illustration starting from the left are two classic Pennsylvania Rairoad Atlantic locomotives, a PRR streamlined K4 Pacific, a PRR T1 Duplex, a Penn Central General Motors diesel, a Conrail General Motors Geep and finally a Norfolk Southern General Electric Dash 9. These are flanked by steel mills and the modern City of Pittsburgh skyline featuring the USX Tower, PPG Place and the Highmark Building.

EMD Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. traces it roots to the Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation, founded in 1922, and was formerly the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors Corporation.
